The Information Commissioner’s Office updates Data Protection Guidance for Education

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) have updated their guidance for education settings (July 2014) regarding data protection.

The update includes a useful video aimed at headteachers, deputy headteachers, school business managers and school governors. It discusses data protection and freedom of information (FOI). It includes key points covering the data protection principles, fair processing, security, disposal, policies, subject access requests, sharing, websites, photographs, CCTV, training, publication schemes, and responding to a FOI request.

The ICO have also produced a set of lesson plans for primary and secondary schools, developed by teachers and tailored to the national curriculum, along with specific advice aimed at young people.
