A recent article published on the BBC News website highlighted the perception that a ‘Screen Culture’ is developing in education and that an increased use of technology in schools is potentially damaging to children’s attention spans. As a Local Authority, Kent County Council promote multimedia and other ICT based activities for students in Kent Schools.
Evidence suggests that the use of ICT improves student attainment and as such should be encouraged and promoted.
Although evidence suggests that student attainment is improved by the use of ICT, clearly there are exceptions for a minority group of students.
Kent County Council welcomes any research that contributes to our understanding of children’s use of ICT and particularly of ‘Screen Culture’ and its links to behaviour. We will consider with interest any conclusions drawn from such research.
